DPRG Monthly- Iron Reign Targets FTC Power Play- Status & Feedback Follow Up

When:

Starts at Noon US Central (Dallas Time) on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Everybody likes to see strong teams make great progress in a short time!

So please join in as the Iron Reign FTC Robotics Team shares updated status and asks feedback from DPRG. We last checked in with Iron Reign on 17 Dec 2022. At that time, they demonstrated fresh code (and fresh findings ;-)) and shared their thoughts for next steps. DPRG shared feedback and ideas – and now we’re all excited to see how far the team has progressed.

About the Iron Reign and the First Tech Challenge:

This year’s First Tech Challenge is called Power Play. It is the most fiendish pick-and-place game so far conceived by FTC. In a 12-foot by 12-foot field densely crowded with 27 scoring targets placed at five different heights, four robots compete to pick up plastic cones and place them on targets. What looks initially like a pure speed and accuracy pick-and-place challenge, evolves into a game of strategy, as teams vie for ownership of the scoring targets. It all happens within 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Learn more about the FTC Power Play Competition here Game Animation.

Iron Reign is building on their successful World Competition design started 3 years ago. “We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster!” While the new carbon fiber build is underway, the team is making progress on the essential platform and the code base.

Iron Reign will share their journey so far and seek critical input from the DPRG membership.

Awesome High Schoolers Get Robotics Done! – DPRG Virtual Monthly Meeting, Mar 13th, 2021

Meeting Video:

Chat Record:  Chat record (PDF)

High School robotics team Iron Reign has a long history of building and competing with remarkably interesting and capable robots. Join us this month to see how Iron Reign Robotics is doing with this year’s FTC competition, Ultimate Goal. Be inspired by the results these dedicated High School students produce. Like most DPRG members, you will surely pick up tips, tricks, and ideas along the way. Or bring along your aspiring middle school STEM students to give them ideas…

The meeting will start at 1:00 PM CST (Dallas Time) on Saturday, March 13th.  You can join the meeting:

Learn more about the Iron Reign team here https://ironreignrobotics.org/

After the presentation if time permits, we will have follow-on discussions, such as ‘latest member builds show and tell’ or ‘open mic Q&A’.

About DPRG Monthly Meetings

DPRG hosts presentations each month during its regular membership meeting. These meetings and presentations are open to public and free to attend. We hope to see you there. Everyone is welcome!

Note: We do record a video of these sessions and post them on the DPRG YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/DPRGclips). By joining the meeting you’re giving consent to be included in the recording.

Using an Android Phone with Your Robot – Monthly Meeting Topic – March 9th, 2019

For tomorrow’s meeting Iron Reign will share information about how they use Android phones to run their robots. The presentation will be informal and off-the-cuff. It will discuss improvements to their competition robot since last presentation, but the emphasis will be a coding walk-through using the Android framework provided by FIRST – the STEM program in charge of their competition.
The walk-through will show some simplified examples. If you want to follow along on your own computers, you can install the tools and starter code below:
1. Download Android Studio – this is a free development environment based on jetbrains, the java sdks will come along for the ride
2. Download the ftc_app starter framework from github – this is starter codebase
3. Compile the app. This needs to be done ahead of time because it will fail multiple times as it figures out new dependencies that need to be downloaded.
There is a fair amount of downloading in all of those steps. We won’t have time to debug the install process for those trying it on their own. However, if you are able to follow along live, we might have a way for you to test a very basic teleop program.  Iron Reign plans to bring some robot phones and show how to debug wirelessly. If it doesn’t work for you, don’t worry about it – if folks are interested we can follow up at RBNO.

After the presentation there will be a show and tell, with a Donkey Car demo.
The meeting is at the Dallas Maker Space and starts at Noon on Saturday, March 9th.
